Ex-voto
Christian and Buddhist inspirations,
my fathers and mothers, my brothers and sisters,
I thank you, today I paint.
What is the weight of family beliefs in the education of a child? Mark Daovannary was raised by a Christian and Buddhist mother. He is agnostic. He does not belong to either of these religions, but he draws his cultural heritage from them. In Ex-voto, he reinvents a symbolic object of the churches by combining his influences. The red of the plaque is a tribute to Buddhist altars while the typography refers to Christianity. The text is composed of the French translation of his surname and the first names of his relatives: a way to thank his ancestors and his heritage.
